#1 Worst Splash Pad in DFW

The summer is over and splash pads in North Texas are closed for the fall and winter … or at least the ones that even opened during the pandemic.

Splash pads, also known as Public Interactive Water Features and Fountains, are a staple of many North Texas communities. They provide an inexpensive way for parents to allow their kiddos to play and cool off in the brutal, sweltering summer months in DFW.

One splash pad in particular didn’t meet the cut. And it just so happens to be located in one of the more prestigious communities in DFW.

Castle Hills is a sprawling upscale community located in Lewisville, Texas. The community is beautiful, well-manicured, and equipped with all types of extra amenities to keep its residents active and happy.

That’s why it’s so surprising that the splash pad in the center of the Castle Hills Village Shops & Plaza is maintained in such a sad, dilapidated state of repair and health. The following pictures don’t lie.

A concerned citizen even posted this review on Google.

On this particular warm September day, the staff at TexasPHS observed a thick greenish-blackish, mold-like algae slime covering the entirety of the splash pad. Kids were even falling down on the asphalt because the slime was so slick. The residents of Castle Hills pay a lot of money in community association dues, so it was quite surprising to see an upscale community amenity maintained in such pitiful conditions.

The point of this article is that environmental health impacts our well-being and quality-of-life, regardless of our socioeconomic status. Severe public health violations exist even in wealthy communities. It’s important that people speak up and let the city know about these awful conditions.
