New Texas Swimming Pool & Spa Rules Revealed

The long-overdue proposed State of Texas Public Swimming Pool and Spa Rules were recently published in the July 24th edition of the Texas Register for public comment.

These new rules would replace the existing pool and spa rules which were very confusing and burdensome for pool operators and regulatory agencies alike. Currently, there are one set of rules for swimming pools and spas constructed prior to 1999 and a completely different set of rules for those built after 1999.

These proposed rules would eliminate the Pre/Post 1999 confusion.

The preamble, the proposed rules, and the repealed rules are all in the Texas Register.

The proposed rules are also directly on the the Texas Department of State Health Services pool/spa website.

The public comment period ends on August 24, 2020. Any and all questions and comments regarding Proposed Rule 19R043 can be e-mailed to Katie.Moore@dshs.texas.gov or to HHSRulesCoordinationOffice@hhsc.state.tx.us.
