TexasPHS Offers Day Care Inspections

On December 6, 2018, two journalists with the Austin-American Statesman revealed their findings after a year-long investigation into Texas day care facilities. The newspaper analyzed 40,000 inspection records in which Texas child care facilities had received state sanctions. The results were horrendous. Our hearts go out to the hard-working Texans that have been adversely affected by negligent and illegal day care operations.

Here are some of the authors’ findings:

  • More than 450 children – almost one a week – suffered sexual abuse inside a day care facility during the past 10 years.
  • Nearly 50% of children who died of abuse and neglect in day care facilities, 42 out of 88, were in illegal centers.
  • Texas’ regulations for day care staffing levels are among the worst in the country.
  • Roughly 1,000,000 Texas children attend day care.

Day care inspections are THE most important inspections that TexasPHS conducts. We are advocates for parents that do not have a choice in whether or not they send their children to day care.
